Everyone gets a smile - paulita

This super clásico seems to have arrived as one of the most anticipated ever. But that’s the feeling it irradiates every single time.

La Bombonera gathers the most diverse kind of people. Between many, economical chasms and nationalities separate us. A group of Asian tourists dressed for the occasion in ‘azul y oro’ (blue and gold) stand out. The game has not started but already they show big smiles. Their incessant, indecipherable, murmur is frowned upon. My prejudice tells me they can’t possibly get it. I’m proved wrong when they stand up and flap their hands in tune with La Doce when it’s time to remember hoaspitalised Diego.

I guess nobody is immune to this.

I try to not get carried away neither by the alleged condition of River of underdogs nor by the near departure of Boca’s biggest idol of the last decade: Guillermo Barros Schelotto. I find that anything but easy.

My heart will be accelerated for 95 minutes and there’s no point in trying to fight it.

The first ball goes to Riquelme’s feet and it comes as a balsam: Román is in one of those days. You can tell, one touch is enough. The second ball he touches finishes in the quickest goal in the history of the clásico (50 seconds). Only he can find the unseen alleys to the goal and leave Ledesma in a position to execute River’s goalkeeper, Carrizo (I suggest that you remember that name). The waving terraces slide at the deafening shout of gooooooal, followed by Riqueeeelme Riqueeeeeelme, which will be spontaneously repeated all through the game.

The first 45 minutes are played at the pace that Riquelme settles. And no, it’s not slow. It’s profound, precise and elegant. Not only ball possession, but ten clear possibilities to score that mostly encounter the wall that Carrizo built up in the goal line. River seems to come back to life at the very end of the first half with one chance.

The breaks in Argentina are longer than in other leagues. They last long enough for the pessimist thoughts to arise. Everyone stuffs with whatever food is sold (they all include meat and bread) in order to avoid thinking about the widespread football law which says that the goals that you fail to score are scored against you. Whether if that’s true in itself is of little importance, it’s proved right in facts more often than not.

The second half finds an eroded Boca and an early equalizer from Rosales. He looks up to the sky, conscious of how grateful he and his fellow gallinas should be. River have a few chances to win the game and so do Boca. River don’t attack but wait crouched and counter attack, always a valid tactic, though hardly satisfying for the black palate that River fans parade.

Carrizo miraculously saves with his leg a free kick taken by Riquelme who also puts a remote-controlled ball on Palermo’s head. All the subtlety that his feet lack, lie in his headers. And yet, he misses. I know then that it’s just not going to happen. Not this time.

Passarella saved his head for now. During the previous game, River fans started chanting about him being a bostero. In their mouths, that’s a big offence. So he chose to carry a white and red umbrella when crossing the field in Boca (and we all let him know that we don’t want him here anyway). In the same line, after the game, he provocatively stated ‘I don’t celebrate draws, they do’. And yet his eyes were laughing so loud.

On the way out of la bombonera, the sense of loosing two points more than winning one was unavoidable.

But had we already forgotten what we just saw and how we felt? Riquelme floods our hearts with immense joy only by playing football. Anything can be said about him, but that’s the effect he has on us. Never has he failed us and we might consider ourselves lucky to have witnessed a breed of footballer in danger of extinction.

A constant reminder of the collective nature of the game.

R: ‘It’s my duty to do everything to help Palermo be the top scorer
J: ‘What about scoring yourself?’
R: (shrugging and looking down)‘I’m happier when I assist a teammate’

And those are not just empty words. Most of the celebrations of Boca’s latest goals include a gesture of thankfulness towards its conceiver who smiles in response (yes, Riquelme smiles).

Because on one of those days, he doesn’t randomly pass the ball. He protects it, even with his ankles at the risk of revenge from humiliated defenders, with such determination that we know he simply can’t loose it. Only then he raises his head and clarifies the play.

On one of those days, he treats us a trick or two and we say ‘have you seen what he just did?’ just to make sure it was not our eager imagination.

On one of those days, he defies modern football and proves that speed of mind beats sprinter's legs.

On one of those days, we get to smile and hope that those days never end.

'enjoy every touch of the ball and almost sad when he passes it simple (which he did a lot)'

they need to do that, there's a song here that goes something like 'he simulates to be a mundane man to humiliate the rest...'
ok, it doesn't work in english :(

any business trip to southamerica in the future?

Anonymous said...

"any business trip to southamerica in the future?"

so far we have not strong business links with south america.

but this can change :)

I know why he has to do simple, so that we enjoy the magic moments :)

and he has to perform like a matedor.

One lethal blow.

Just like Roman.

but simple minds dont understand this.

Anonymous said...

maybe you could collect little boris yourself? :))

don't expect to understand genius, our job is to enjoy...

Anonymous said...

I will have to check on the diplomatic situation with Little Boris :)

Anonymous said...

I have home office technical issues :(

Anonymous said...

Its been days since.....

How little Boris??

How's Roman??

How's the leaking roof??

How's ms purist??

Anonymous said...

(sigh of relief)

do you know how worried I was?

when henry left and you weren't there, laughing at the broken hearted fans, for a moment I feared the worst...

:)

che ms purist,

Like an arsenal striker, I stood, head in hands, in total disbelief as the chance to dance on arsenal's grave, passed me by.

I am making up for it a little today though :)

How r u and little Boris??

Anonymous said...

jaja!!

are you sure the gods allow that kind of behaviour?

little boris is fine, big boris is even better, the roof is fixed and ms purist is crossing her fingers :)

how's your monday?

Anonymous said...

Mon is hectic.

Lots of people with issues (problems)

And a lot of rain.

Perhaps we have the rainy season and not summer

All the time I am focused on golden beaches.

and getting my home technology fixed.

The gods are on holiday, so they cant see my evil work :)......I think.

when does the copa A start?

I want to stay close to the action.

Anonymous said...

what do you mean gods on holidays??? copa america starts tomorrow! they'd better be back for arg on thursday.

I know you want to follow elano and I'm not too happy about it, add me to the list of people with issues :)

Anonymous said...

everyone has issues.

so we just have to be happy, even with issues :)

I am hoping that my new technology will allow me to see the Copa A and I believe the gods are back from hols tonight so should be ok.

That said, I am instructing them of their first assignment, which is for Elano, so he can secure his move out of Ukraine.

Then I was thinking/hoping to do something for the rabbit, but......

Anonymous said...

'everyone has issues.

so we just have to be happy, even with issues'

don't give me enthusiastic impracticable lessons of self- help, not on a monday!!

if the new technology doesn't work, you could go to the golden beaches of venezuela...

Anonymous said...

will my technology work on the golden beaches of venezuela??

actually I used to have dreams of the golden beaches in venezuela.

I am sorry I will not try to change your dark mood on a monday :)

Is it winter in a venezuela too??

(or should I know this??)

Anonymous said...

mr purist one has a right to be black on mondays you know? :)

is there a golden beach you haven't dreamed of? and talking about your obssession with GOLDEN beaches, that also includes a BLUE sea, and/or a BLUE sky... you've always had the good colours in your heart :))

(venezuela doesn't really have winters, unless you consider 38º at 2 pm winter)

Anonymous said...

"venezuela doesn't really have winters, unless you consider 38º at 2 pm winter)"

Its just as I dreamt this.

Indeed my heart/mind is full of colours.

cos everything here is soooo grey. Especially today.
Now is the home time and no technology :(

Anonymous said...

'cos everything here is soooo grey. Especially today.
Now is the home time and no technology'

exactly my point about mondays... but don't worry, tommorrow when you wake up, it'll be all fixed :)

Anonymous said...

Hola Paulita!

still not fixed :(

Now I await delivery of new equipment :(

No visual either :(

till at least 3rd July :(

Apart from that, its a great day :)

No Copa A for me :(

Anonymous said...

Oh and on my local sports radio yesterday, they had a brief look at the upcoming Copa A.

The commentator/presenter talked about Riquelme and "that wonderful left foot he has"

God help me!

Anonymous said...

what's with all the pouts???

'new equipment' sounds important :)

left - right confusion isn't a female issue, you see?
riquelme's left foot is not bad, but if you say it's 'wonderful', then what would you say about his right?

I read yesterday something that crespo said and I thought of you.
'basile (arg coach) asks me to give the final stitch. that means I'll touch less balls, more minutes will pass by without me participating. before, I had to get out of the box, move back. but today the team needs something different (...) I'll have to be very pacient'

basile is a purist, just like you and me :)

Anonymous said...

jaja

He is indeed.

Or maybe Basile read these pages and then his tactics became clear in his mind.

Riquelme...left foot??

The commentator was probably thinking about Messi.

These guys no nothing about SA football.

Anonymous said...

pouts??

new equipment is very important.

Anonymous said...

'Or maybe Basile read these pages and then his tactics became clear in his mind.'

well that's the only sensible explanation :)

'The commentator was probably thinking about Messi'

that's your commentators?? and you call yourselves first world :))

ps: riquelme needs his left foot to do that move I like...

Anonymous said...

Even....Ayala needs a left foot to stand on, while he kicks his opponent with his more deadly right foot :)))

Anonymous said...

these :( are not pouts?

'new equipment is very important'

like futurama?

:)

Anonymous said...

I guess you could call em pouts.

sad or unhappy is better description.

To pout is more like ..... a kiss or such like...I think??

maybe pout is right; a kiss of unhappiness :)

Anonymous said...

jaja!

few (special, gifted, touched by the wand of football gods) defenders are able to kick in the classy manner that the mouse ayala does...

oh, I'm inventing words again, aren't I? (by the way, very polite of you to try to make it work :)))

Anonymous said...

Inventing words is good.

As I know of your capability to create new words. Its my job to try and make these new words work in the real world :))

Ayala is a fine defender and I like his style. I guess he is not a bostero??

Anonymous said...

in a way, my world is real too :))

'I guess he is not a bostero??'

what's that supposed to mean?

(he comes from river, please remember how not biased I am :)

Anonymous said...

I'd need to know which is your good foot?
right? left?
both?
:)

Anonymous said...

Right.

my left is for standing and also for Gambeta combinations, but no power.

Of course I will never think u biased :))

Anonymous said...

no futsal these days?

I tell you I like ayala, lucho gonzalez, the rabbit, and you still think I'm biased...

Anonymous said...

futsal is today.

but feel so tired and my right knee is ....painful.

I am tired, I have played so many games.

I want to go to Barcelona :)

Anonymous said...

ja!
you sound just like ronaldinho
'I'm tired I need holidays...'

I tought it was your ankle?

Anonymous said...

my ankle is better, untill it gets kicked again.

The knee is a new injury

my footballing friend says its medial knee ligaments. I dont believe him and will test it tonight.

so by tomorrow, either my footballing career is over and I am crutches or....I am the new/old Ronaldinho :)

I think I am going home for a siesta.

but no technology, unless my delivery has arrived.

Anonymous said...

siesta ???

I don't want to hear you complain about your hard life style ever again!

(in a friendlier tone)

good luck with your knee.
in any case, nothing's over, you'll just have to play like skilfull footballers do when they retire: just stand and concentrate the talent in simple quick passes :)

Anonymous said...

My life is hard, I am not even sure I can call it a lifestyle :)

Re: stand still and simple quick passes;

I do that already and I injured my knee further.

I think I will just get used to the pain otherwise I might need to go to America to visit one of those famous knee surgeons :)

Mexico beat Brazil I hear. I think H. Sanchez feels a point to prove and good for him. Even if he is a big mouth. Actually I like big mouths, being one myself :)

Argentina surely must be favourites to win this Copa A thing that I cant watch??

Anonymous said...

hey big mouth

sorry to hear about your knee. you could also visit a chinese doctor, a canadian chiropractor and an amazonian chaman.

brazil media is very upset about the defeat. I don't blame kaka and dinho for not wanting to play...

I prefer not to say the f word... arg is plan A, paraguay plan B.

do you have tv for world cup under 20? or maybe you are not interested?

Anonymous said...

I have a TV for nothing

no links, connections until my delivery arrives and today we have a postal strike which I guess wont make my life any easier.

And as I didnt want to go to the office I am in a crowded but comfortable bar, with connection.

so I have turned this into my office. And with my big mouth on the phone, everyone here really loves me....Not :)

Have Aregentina lost their opening match yet?

Carlitos wants to be an english boy :))

Anonymous said...

mr purist solve your technical issues, please. then your knee :)

big mouths are fine if they can match what they say with what they do :))

arg 4 - usa 1
you'd think that leaves people happy? no, it doesn't, insatiable beasts :)

news here say that west ham made a big, irresistible, offer to carlitos. also that they tried to make roman go to atletico de madrid and he said no no no

:)

Anonymous said...

West Ham are fools

They will probably make me an offer soon. Even with an injury

Big mouths are big mouths

I am trying hard to fix these problems but I should have my visual back by next tues. (probably by which time all the good stuff is gone :(

Nice day though.

How is my little Boris??

Anonymous said...

who were the scorers?

did Veron and Roman start?

Athl Mad is not so bad....Roman will look good there, although El Nino is off to Liverpool it seems.

To join that destroyer of strikers confidence.....Rafa B.

Anonymous said...

friday is always a nice day!

by next tue you'll have copa america???

that's when the good stuff begins!

your little boris not born yet, his mother has that lovely pregnancy glow and the father is dealing with a cuckroach situation.

Anonymous said...

REALLY??

I thought Little Boris was ready to join me in England

I was even looking into the various DHL packages.

Do u think he will be ok to wrap in bubble wrap for shipping??

(ok I joke!)

:))

Anonymous said...

Argentina are so favourites that whatever they do it’s likely to never be enough. commentators, media, even at GU said argentina was not good. I humbly beg to disagree.
Argentina’s ball possession was more or less of 75 %, it was very hot, USA waited with ALL of their players on their ground which was likely to leave for most of the game 11 against 6 and that despite the difference in quality, isn’t an easy game to play. So what’s wrong about moving the ball from one side to the other, letting them wear out, until finding the space, which they obviously did, because 4 goals (crespo, crespo, aimar, tevez) were scored. Mascherano was so precise, I thought he was man of the match, (Gabriel) milito was quite the opposite. Veron and messi on the same side didn’t work for me. They seemed to step on each other. Veron at times abused of long balls aimed to nobody (PL residue :). Aimar entered in the second half and was just on fire, he played on the left and I think he benefited from that (a lot), since the centre was much more crowded. my only worry is that I don’t know how he would work against an opposition willing to attack. Mascherano will then have a lot of work.
oh, and don't get me started on heinze...
:)

Anonymous said...

ok, no little boris for you!

:))

Anonymous said...

heh!heh!heh!

nice summary.

a shame, no rabbit :(

Veron always had this long balls, which sometimes doesnt work unless he has a T. Henry who can run onto them.

Nice to see the USA getting spanked.

I dont think I knew that they play the copa A.

will I be able to see anything by next tuesday??

Bubble wrap and a water bottle :)))

Anonymous said...

ok.

my work is done.

Now I am leaving this bar in peace.

speak later.

Anonymous said...

jaja
bubble wrap, water bottle and a ball...

there's no room for rabbits, even tevez only got to play 15 minutes!

copa america has just started and games have been really good.

AMAZING!!!!!!!!! You kept in touch in this taproom......Was convinced it was closed down for good:((( How come no one let me know????I kept checking the new Paulita corner every now and then but never imagined you kept it going here, shame on you two. And, on top of it, so many ugly things have happened during the month of June.....:(((

Anonymous said...

Its not amazing pipita, its natural :)

Hola Paulita,

I know its monday and I have to be quiet and low key, lets pray to the gods that my technology issues are fixed this week.

I hear news of a Robinho hattrick?? some say there is a lot of cheap defending on show, which is why there are so many goals. (cheap goals, some say :))

what's happened to tactical 1-1 draws? with that extra defensive midfielder??

Anonymous said...

which ugly things pipita??

u have not been exposed to offside have u??

heh!heh!heh!

(its the way I tell em :)))

pipita said...

Speaky
That question you just posed reflects that you have a really cheeky sense of wit or that in actual fact your not such a true bostero, as Paulita suspects
:))) Re sloppy defending in Copa America, maybe so, but its such more fun than those tactical Euro nations cup games you seem to be referring to

Anonymous said...

pipita,

you know I have blue and gold blood running through my veins :))

pipita said...

Speaky
Your that scared of Paulita, wow...:)))Where is she by the way???? Is it still pissing down with rain in London?? Saw a glimpse of Wimbledon just a while ago at a café, and it didn't look good. Nice and sunny down here for the moment

Anonymous said...

Pipita

Thats very unkind to suggest we have a relationship based on fear :)

London or should I say England has been raining for weeks. sometimes suicide bombs, but mainly rain. Bringing about flooding and such like.

Sheffield Tuesday's ground Hillborough is now effectively under water.

Wimbledon, we wish was under water.

maybe we will form a water polo team :)

Anonymous said...

I dont know where Paulita is??

Maybe she has ran away with some Liverpool supporters :)

Anonymous said...

pipita

it would just be easier if you accepted that speaktruth and nery castillo are both bosteros 'de alma'

'you know I have blue and gold blood running through my veins'

yes, it boils in the blood, welcome to the good side :))

ps: has there been a better time to move to the golden beaches?

Anonymous said...

have you run away with liverpool supporters?

:)

Anonymous said...

Hola Paulita,

You only appear when I am not there??

You are right about golden beaches, but it cant be done just now.

have to live with this unpleasantness for now :(

More cheap goals by Argentina?

crespo injured....I hear. does this mean a recall for the rabbit?

:)

Anonymous said...

haha! you're not used to many goals IN THE SAME GAME :)

not again with the rabbit...

I'm sorry mr purist but I'm not sending little boris there... let me know when you've settled in a golden beach :)

Anonymous said...

Paulita!

I need little Boris to protect me
:(

And besides he might be a good sniffer, in which case he can sniff around for explosives and such like before I settle down in any bar :)

These kind of dogs are getting quite famous in England :)

London is now marginally less dangerous than Bogota :)

I am preparing papers to seek political asylum on the golden beach :)

Anonymous said...

what happenned with your new technology?

boris only sniffs in the search of sweets... but if you insist...

seriously, what's london like these days?

Anonymous said...

technology almost fixed. some people came in this morning.

Although, still waiting new link box, which has yet to arrive, but my viewing has been restored. I think.

London?

Its the same as always, perhaps a bit of stress and tension around.

It has not been the best recently and the constant heavy rains (apart from today) have not helped the situation.

Also the first week of a smoking ban, so the mood is very low.

Although, nobody goes around all day worrying about these things. You have to remember that we have a long history of bomb attacks, so its nothing new as such, but it still quite...unnerving in some ways.

But inspite of this, people dont change their habits that much, everyone still goes out etc.

Little Boris will be very happy here :))

pipita said...

Speaky, indeed
"you know I have blue and gold blood running through my veins :))"

Have to conclude that your a "pollerudo", Paulita, translate:))Dont mean to be machistic, but the man leaves me no options here.....

Anonymous said...

speaktruth

yeah, what's a bomb compared to a smoking ban? :)
anyway, I shouldn't worry, bostero's homes are always warm enough.

almost fixed means you can see copa america? and have a proper home office? :)

pipita

I wonder if you purposefully try to wind me up or you're a natural
:)))

pipita said...

Come on Paulita, its too clear that Speaky has turned into a bostero cos of your natural feminine charm and methods of persuasion:)))

Anonymous said...

Paulita,

I think I can now see Copa A.

I didnt have time to check as I had to leave once they finished. I still think I am missing a few things, but its now a matter of days.

The home office is still awaiting the new box, I think postal strikes are causing a delay. But I am close...I think

And yes Bostero homes are always more...warm and stress free :)

Can u tell me what pipita is saying??

Pipita

my bostero..ness has absolutely nothing to do with paulita's considerable charms :))

Ever since I was a kid, all I ever wanted to be was a Bostero :))

if you don't mind me asking, where are all the articles you were going to write?

Anonymous said...

paulita,

I wish I had time to write articles.

I think I recall saying that its unlikely that I would/could write an article cos writing on the GU blogs is enough.

and then I said I would write those articles for u(interiew with Tevez in CL Magazine) when I have time, but since then I have lost my home office, which has made this practically impossible.

To be on here now, I am in the office, long after everyone's gone.

why do u ask this all of a sudden. Are u cravin for a written piece by me?? or do u just want to taunt me??

Anonymous said...

'Are u cravin for a written piece by me?? or do u just want to taunt me??'

both :)))
but more of a craving, really.

you're in the office?
see why you can't have a little boris?

Anonymous said...

ms purist,

I will send my goons (hired hands) over to take little Boris and bring him to me :)

by order of the queen :)

u know its the need for technology that keeps me here and I think I will be here till probably close to midnight.

one day when all this is done, I will sit down with a quill pen and write the finest football article ever seen anywhere :)).

Nowadays I dont even have time to read the GU blogs properly. I have to guess some things, like the marcela piece now. I felt the need to contribute even though I have not read the article, let alone the blogs (apart from yours ;).

You know the saying....in order to make an omellette, first u have to crack the egg.

In order to move to the golden beaches...first u have to work like a dog. (I think anyway)

Anonymous said...

your goons (I know I'll forget this word) only work locally? I mean, can't you send them to get little boris?

work like a dog till midnight? don't make me soften and feel sorry for you :))

maybe there's a shorter road to golden beaches? maybe offside has a room for you?

Speaky
Sad to hear about your knee. Im playing tonight and have invited a Scottish friend, whose here on a two week visit, to come play with us. Same would happen to you if you ever decided to pay the city of paulita and pipita a visit.
Paulita
I repeat, I like dogs its just that I know too well that I wouldnt be able to cope with having one in an apartment. So, reconsider the question of your trust on me, please

Anonymous said...

Good morning pipita

I hope u r in fine fettle today

u should be willing to share your apartment with a dog?

how much space do u need??

especially when we are only talking little Boris.

A footballing trip to BA would be awesome!

when is the summer?? I will have to start making such plans and I can bring some bubble wrap for little Boris :))

I've had 2 awesome 5 a sides in the past 2 weeks.

comprehensivly beating our opponents with a mixture of steel and Gambeta and some fine passing. sometimes I wish I could watch me playing on TV, some real quality instinctive stuff. :))

(and I could be my own agent, seeing as I talk up my skills:)

Even if I am begining to feel like T. Sheringham.

Beware of scottish footballers :)).

pipita said...

Speaky

Summer here begins around November, but best time of the year for me, hope Paulita agrees, is September-October, so start planning when to get your tickets!!! Little Boris would smell and pis and shit all over the place just like any other dog, and soon enough would grow into a big Boris...As for the futsal, Im really pleased to hear your doing so well. Have to say Ive also been pretty much okay lately. My passing has been inmaculate as of late, and my sense of judgement and general maturity have never been so good. Even my gambeta, for which I have never been renowned, is gaining in strength largely due to the reasons above mentioned. :)))Care to be my agent as well?? Think abbout it

Anonymous said...

pipita,

The growing into a Big Boris thing is a concern :)

I think we (experienced footballers) generally better with age. Less running around aimlessly, more simple decisive passes and moves. but most importantly, sound judgement. when to, when not to....

do u know how long a flight is from uk to BA??

This is becoming a serious proposition, although I am sure Paulita will be very sceptical :)

pipita said...

Speaky
Don't let Paulita's scepticism distract your plan...British Airways flight from London to Buenos Aires takes around 14 hs that include a one hour stop, without getting off the plane, in sao Paulo. This is the most direct way of getting here from England.
Totally in agreement with you about benefits of ageing and football, or futsal rather, I feel exactly the same. Only negative thing, that I sense in my case at least, is a bit more apprehension when going into a tackle. Not exactly that Im chickening out, rather fearing the hassle an irritating injury would cause me at both home and work......

Anonymous said...

pipita

Never hesitate in going into a tackle.

Besides todays game is more about timing, anticipation and interceptions.

but never be afraid of the rough stuff if u have to?

No...I say sceptical only cos Paulita wont believe this will happen till it does :)

My leg is too strong (like Roberto Carlos) for it to come off.

And my knee is almost better, as I explained to the selector this afternoon :)

why a bikini??

do u mean for the golden beaches??

in which case....ok :)

Man u??

Its one thing to get to the top.

Its another to try and stay at the top.

but its necessary to try and be ready for the "move".

On golden beaches the days will be less hectic, but i have to prepare for this day :)

No hectic day for u??

Anonymous said...

hey!! I feared this would be paulita, me and myself...

no hectic days for me. ever. I move through life like roman on the field :))

pipita

my intuitive knowledge of the distribution of boca (south) - river (north) fans apparently was correct (ask julio aurelio).

buenos aires: 26.7% river, 26.4% boca, 9.9% san lorenzo, 7.7% racing, 7.6% independiente.

(statistical error: 3%)

Anonymous said...

tevez

on his bosteroness

'riquelme is a 'crack' ((you don't use that expression no?)). it's a pleasure to even train next to him, so imagine what it means to me to enter the field next to him. watch him play at boca and win the libertadores cup drove me crazy. only I know how much I celebrated that title. I felt like wearing boca's shirt again, of course. but not yet'

He wants to be in England.

no way just paulita and paulita.

No need to ever be scared with me, my bark is definetly worse than my bite. :))

any comment from Tevez??

Anonymous said...

'I thought u said I dont use capitals??'

exactly!

tevez has said a million times (the last one yesterday) he doesn't know anything about his future.

I think you're not too happy about him going to manU... or that you don't believe it yet?

Anonymous said...

I am not sure I care that much to be honest.

They have already, players like him, so I dont think it really important he joins, but it will of course make others like....chelsea and Arsenal jealous, but in some ways he is same kind of player as rooney but better :)

if he does not join, it will not be the end of the world.

if I dont get this piece of work I am doing, right, then it will be the end of the world :)

pipita said...

Paulita, Speaky

Good afternoon and good evening to both of you. Very hectic morning for me too...Luckily this meant I was able to avoid the umbearable Bostero rant thats been going on in this corner today...Futsal last night was quite heavy going. First of all a guy dropped out of the game in the last minute leaving us in four against five situation:(((Bastard!!!We managed to "recruit" a byestander, but then it turned out to be one of those games when the ball just keeps hitting you all over the body, "pelotazos" as we say here, and its a pretty hard ball as you well know...Knee, back, thighs, bum, hit me about everywhere except luckily, the face, and, even more lucky, the balls:)))All the same Im pretty much in pain at the moment. The Scot was in fine form, he had played with us during a whole year some six years ago, and to add to the international flavour, another guy brought along a bloke from Malaysia who was so-so, skillfull but a bit frail and erratic. Core, Ive written a hell of a lot, I'll proceed to take a rest

Its just that I was basically playing in defense and was too often caught in the firing line, so I had to repeatedly use parts of my body as a shield to protect our goalie from the opposition shooting. That aside, my passing and control went pretty okay, and actually managed to score a pretty nice one:)))
Paulita
The Italian was meant for you, dont make yourself la boluda:)))

Hola Paulita!

At last I have my tv connections again, so late last night I watched Columbia v USA very good game with some comical moments at the end.

Then Argentina v Paraguay

sad that it was not the first team, but still some good players on show, although I am tooo sure about Palacio.

It was gone 3.30am before I went to bed.

and here I am in the office for a less hectic day :)

ciao pipita,

I too like to take up such defensive positions and help the team. And then burst forward to score the odd goal :)

Anonymous said...

hola mr truth

all the good games next week.

what about palacio???

did paraguay answer any of your questions about defenses?

Anonymous said...

Hola Paulita

The Paraguan defence was very good, but Palacio was not very good though and the small paraguyan captain was a rock at the heart of the defence.

I think the standard of the football is very good from what I have seen, even if the likes of Columbia defended poorly (including Cordoba of all people)

but I am just glad to be ready for the key games.

I was dissappointed having stayed up till late to see argentina without Roman, but aimar was good and seems to be re-invogorated.

just like me in fact :)

sunny windy day in London Town.

Anonymous said...

ja!!! just like BA, sunny and windy

you've seen ONE game of palacio (he's never played with aimar, tevez, etc before), don't be that kind of football viewer please.

yes, re-inv... (can't prononce that) but I didn't like aimar last night (or lucho gonzalez).

you'll need a week in a golden beach to recover from this week of copa america :)

Anonymous said...

maybe a golden beach in venezuela??

lucho Gonzales is in the squad??

as in the one that was briefly in england and then villareal??

And they found no room for the rabbit :((

I have seen Palacio a few times also for Boca (now where have I seen Boca in a full game??)

maybe some late night football programme with SA football on show.

u know I am not that kind of football viewer :)

Anonymous said...

eh? lucho gonzalez as in porto, as the one that started last night?

'now where have I seen Boca in a full game??'

you haven't I guess?

'u know I am not that kind of football viewer'

Anonymous said...

so...

finally the home office is set?

Anonymous said...

No not the home office

just the viewing

still waiting on one more delivery. but like I said;

Postal stike......etc etc etc

but I Expect progress this weekend.

When u hear from me, outside office hours then u will know my full health has been restored :)

I so wanted to send u a message that I was watching copa a last night. but no roman :(

I thought its ok to go deep on a fri??

Anonymous said...

don't worry, I kinda heard your telepathic call :))

roman at argentina is still not the best roman BUT, since peru's shirt is exactly like river's, maybe on sunday he'll show all his glory. if that doesn't inspire roman nothing will :)

have you finished your piece of work? is the world now safe? :)

fridays are to be happy (see all the smiles? :)

Anonymous said...

yes the world is now safe (or at least semi safe :)

peru and river....

u have an evil mind :))

do river have any players in that team currently??

Friday may be a happy day, but with 4 hours sleep I am now feeling the strain.

slumped over my desk, dribbling on my laptop keyboards :)).

I blame the Copa A :)

Anonymous said...

'slumped over my desk, dribbling on my laptop keyboards'

don't!!! it's not a lovely image for you, and also if you broke it, who knows how long another delivery could take :)))

'do river have any players in that team currently??'

carrizo (second keeper)

Anonymous said...

does this mean that normally I have a lovely image??

Just curious :)

you are right... delivery time is a pain.

Anonymous said...

'does this mean that normally I have a lovely image??'

yeah, moving the ball from one feet to the other especially suits you

pipita said...

Frankly can't believe how bostero the football media in this country is. Masche scores this beautiful goal last night, and all we hear on the tv is "oh, what irony, this player who never scores puts one in like if he were Riquelme" Im fed up...Im off to Marcela's thread in GU. Suppose I'll encounter you two there as well. Chau

Anonymous said...

heh!heh!heh!

Anonymous said...

Typical Gallina.

pipita is delusional, honestly, all media talk about is messi!!

but everyone's rightfully giving credit to mascherano.

Anonymous said...

I hope Mascherano has the right transfer papers to play for Argentina??

Anonymous said...

you really worry about papers... interesting...

:))

Anonymous said...

In England, we always worry about papers.

papers for everything :)

pipita said...

Ahaaaaa!!!So now you two,are ganged up against me in Marcela's blog Que bonito!!! On another note, Paulita have to admit you were proved right to be suspisious about Speaky's "plan" for an eventual trip to Argentina...He hasn't mentiones anything about this after hearing about the fourteen hours flight:)))Or is it that he is afraid of receiving too many "pelotazos" in my futsal gam heh heh

Anonymous said...

No fear

If my plans for global domination come off, then there every chance I shall commence inspection of south america in sept.

:)

Anonymous said...

pipita

I seriously think the feathers in your eyes are not allowing you to see reality...

every poll, every article I've read and every comment I've heard praises first and foremost M&M (masche and messi).

on speaktruth (speaky sounds weird)

just don't ask him sept of what year

pipita said...

Speaky
September?? How serious are you about this?? I would like to ditch the scepticism, but....

Paulita
Any seriousness attached to your comments on the media and last night's game lost all credibility thanks to your gallina joke...

Anonymous said...

Oh ye of little faith.

Sept 2007 of course.

There are a lot of factors, but not an impossible goal.

still no technology:(

have to dash.

sunny day in London Town :)

sorry if I was strange, but I was multi-tasking in a big way.

ciao.

Anonymous said...

hola mr purist

hectic sunny monday for you?

are you having second thoughts about paraguay's defense?

it's that serbia syndrome, 'allow in one game all the goals you have prevented for years'

Anonymous said...

I guess pipita will brake some keybords and screens if I say mascherano took that rebound like palermo...

:)))

Anonymous said...

Hola Paulita,

I fought nature to stay awake long enough for Roman to score the opener. Then I decided..."my work is done" so I switched off and went to bed (I think at 2am or so)

Paraguay defending is a contradition in terms. For this game only :)

I know there is a lot of fantasy football, but some of the defending was atrocious. Even I will play better in my futsal game this evening.

I kept sending u telephatic messages...did u recieve them??

sunny day..In london Town...(la.la.la:)

Anonymous said...

you missed all the good part???

it was too noisy for me to listen to your messages :))
what were you saying?

there was very bad defending in these games, there always has been, and the difference between some teams has always been huge, but never before it had translated into so many goals.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, you could say I missed the best parts, but I reasoned that I could watch the highlights later.

My messages were mainly things like...why Milto D and not Carlitos.

It seems that once some teams conceded, they lost heart and conceded loads more.

Roque Santa Cruz and friends lost heart very early in the game. At least Peru were competitive for long periods till Roman did his thing. (remember...the left foot??:)

Live Copa A is difficult to follow in europe for a working man. (or woman :)

All those goals and Messi does not have one.

Anonymous said...

messi's goal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrP63t3agDI

'remember...the left foot??'
that was the only message I sent you!!

'It seems that once some teams conceded, they lost heart and conceded loads more.'
I couldn't have said it better. it seemed it was over long before it was over :)

Anonymous said...

Maybe some of those sides, need some proper English grit :)

Has Messi scored a Copa A goal??

I guess with all those generous defenders, someone's bound to have given him a gift :) (now u will abuse me :)

Yeah, I got your left foot message.

Anonymous said...

'Yeah, I got your left foot message'

well, I was pretty loud... sorry about that :))

watch messi's goal if you're able (why is messi divine at gambetas and a mere mortal at passing?)

generous defenders? you mean like heinze?
:))

Anonymous said...

Its ok, I expected it to be loud, considering whose left foot we are talking about :)

Henize is far from generous, behave yourself.

Gambeta and passing require 2 different mind set

Gambeta, once u start, the defender(s) get into a panic mode which means they are diving in, which makes it easier to instinctively move the ball away from them.

Passing requires more thoughtful approach. It requires someone to have a map of the pitch and his teammates in his head to see and the pass before even he recieves the ball. After a long period of practicing this, then it can also become an instinct.

Thats why most young players may be good with Gambeta, but it takes years to be able produce zidane like passing without thinking.

Personally when I was younger I was a lot of gambeta, now I can achieve the same results with one measured pass :)

(I think anyway)

Anonymous said...

you're very inspired for a monday morning!!!

so you have the instinct passing? I find it very endearing when someone (professional or not) emulates the moves of his heroe (roman emulates, when he can, ZZ too) :)

aimar has recently said that he belived many things could be trained but, on the wisdom of passing, of seeing all and making the right choice, 'if that can be taught I'd really like to know where'.

if only heinze wasn't heinze, roman would put him in the right place of the map :)) (if you ask me, I think the (lack of) map was the problem at germany...)

anyway, I can see the poorness of many of these sides (although I've seen poorness at WC and euro too and not so many goals), I wouldn't proclaim arg is the best side in the world or anything like that, it's just that some of this football can make you happy, that's all...

I'm thinking... you also missed the goal against paraguay... maybe there's a pattern? maybe there's an order of things we don't want to change?

ok I'm talking too much so I'll shut up for a while :)))

Anonymous said...

"so you have the instinct passing?"

Here's the thing.

when I played as kid, I used to play with this guy who was like super pippo, he will follow the play but never involved. I would be doing Gambeta and all the other kids always chase after the ball

At some point during this, I would slip the ball from the crowd to this guy who would score easily and always was the case that the other kids never spotted this guy just running alongside and never getting involved till he recieved the ball to score.

In football, I think there is a lot of visualisation in the mind, that enables these acts to be done instinctively.

In my futsal, once every 3 or 4 games, I will make a pass that no one else saw (just like when I was a kid)

somehow with the ball, I will see something out of the corner of my eye (like a teammates movement) and then play the ball through a crowd of players who are expecting something different and this pass just arrives at the right time and at the right pace, for the player to score.

Once I did this in one of a futsal tournament game.

was playing at the back and surrounded by opponents but I saw the movement and made the pass and the reciever of the pass in an instant was facing the opposing keeper who he beat easily. and my teammates are saying wow! what a pass. But I can never tell u how I do this.

I think it just comes from the instinct of playing and thinking football and u know my brain is 99% football and the rest is....??

:)).

Not that I am zz or anything, but if u follow this kind of player, you can emulate or develop the same thought process

For instance I watched a lot of Desaily at Meelan and in the 98 world cup and then after that I became very good at tackling, which is why I play from the back most times. And I also became good in the air, which I wasnt previously. strange but true.

but I am no zz or desailly, I just learnt to take things from them :)

Also thats why passing is easier when u are older, cos u know u cant run around all day long so u compensate with other attributes (like T. Sheringham).

I am glad u find me inspired :)

Anonymous said...

Oh my god!!

just realised the length of my last post.

Its like guest77 or harpersmythe :)))

Anonymous said...

don't worry about length, what do you have that big mouth for? :))

yes, very inspired.

that's the thing, you need to learn that as a kid (and then work on it, master it for when you grow older and need it). but if it doesn't happen when you're a kid, I don't think it ever will.

I personally love that role of the playmaker because of its altruism, cause even if someones points 'what a pass' the eye usually goes with the one that scored. but the creator must feel that silent rejoice of knowing they saw it before, so much in their hands...

Anonymous said...
