The Pseudifier – by Offgrass & Greenside

A bierstube just off the autobahn. Outside, a faded, peeling poster promises: "For this night only - Madame Mimi's Lycra and Leather Extravaganza".

Inside, Oliver Kahn dances the can-can, accompanied by a bevy of lederhosen-clad Bavarian brass monkeys. Greengrass turns to Offside:

  • So you brought me all this bloody road for this?
Offside flashes an enigmatic smile. He moves towards the bar area, fishes a strange looking device out of his bag, plugs it into the back of a computer ; sits down and starts banging away at the keyboard.
  • That’s just a decoy, I’m trying to keep this quiet for the moment. Listen, Gigi, you've been away for a long time, so I was getting bored and I developped this… thing. Hang on, let me show you.
Offside punches in a couple of codes, hits the Enter key. The Bavarian set-up flickers and vanishes. It is instantly replaced by a gigantic bedroom, subdued lighting, soothing music, a couple of kimono-clad beauties reclining on a sofa so big and soft that it's threatening to engulf them. On the black coffee table, three lines of fine white powder and a small silver tube..
  • What the f…?
Offside hurriedly presses the Escape key. The room turns to a neutral, formless grey.
  • Oops, sorry. That’s just a test environment I created to fine tune the… oh, nevermind. Here, look at this.
He types in another combination, hits Enter. The place flickers again and turns into the Antibes Absinthe Bar. Spiral staircase descending into a stone cellar, vintage Pernod posters, a collection of old absinthe fountains, a piano, marble-top bar tables, comfy chairs. Offside turns to Greengrass and grins.
  • Pretty neat, hein? But look, what’s even better is that I can do it with people, you know, Pseuds. I can bring them to life. I tried it last weekend with Guitou and Marcela as guinea pigs and it worked fine. Well, Guitou’s hair came out all wrong and Marcela was a lot smaller than she should be, but otherwise it was great. All you need to do (Offside pastes the Pseuds’ Corner URL in the addres bar) is work from one of their comments on the site, and the machine… well, it’s complicated but, to put it in a nutshell, the letters and words solidify into a data stream that goes through… this… and the blogger materialises… like so…

Blinding flash of light. Greengrass stares, open mouthed…

Munni,
I hate to see this this thread turning into another GU crapy blog but I like to explain the above comments:
-I can understand some of the frustration about last year but their 2 superstars let them down last year .They had great names but you couldn't have them in the lineup and now they are gone and replaced by more productive workers.I see more speed and power and to translate this into success: second or third in the premiership- semi in the FA cup or quarter in the Cl , should be an achievable goal, they have the ressources for.

What is this, the last web refuge of the Arsenal supporters? Should we paint the place red and white? I don't mind, especially if it means exvp will drop by more often for a drink, but greengrass may not be so keen...

guitougoal said...

offside,
Arsenal me? more detached than attached still like to spread the good news to the scepticals.......

Anonymous said...

Yes, ervp, please come back! It doesn't have to be an Arsenal or big four discussion, but we're just sat at the bar catching up... sports and specifically footie is bound to come up once in awhile. And Arsenal just happens to be well represented today.

(BTW, I'm optimistic and madly in love with the Clichy-Traore partnership on the left side. Traore is just a kid but he is a bruiser in the Vieira mold and always has Clichy's back. We are so wicked fast, we just need to have some luck finishing.)

So wait, is Guitou really Belgian?

Anonymous said...

les flamands, les flamands
guitou n'est pas belgian
honolulu is Hawaian
offside is a tahitian
but guitou is no belgian

guitougoal said...

honolulu,
that said a lot about my sense of humor!

Anonymous said...

offside -
you mean this place hasn't been painted red and white all along?

But you promised me!

GG

offsideintahiti said...

gg,

I've promised so many different things to so many different people...

I even promised Lord Ebren to spread the rumour that Guitou was Belgian. Don't ask, he made me do it. Wanted to impress some of his contacts in Brussels. I fear he is planning his next political move.

Don't tell him I told you, he'd be furious. And we all know what that means...

Anonymous said...

Offside - you dare interfere with my nefarious schemes? Do you think to match your mind against my machinations?

Fool!

I did for Longbottom and I'll do for you.

What? Oh.

pipita said...

If Guitou is belgian, Im from Uruguay, a place where, in spite of what Professor Greengrass claimed in that legendary GU blog, the chorizo's are pretty crappy

I've got no problems at all with the red and white either

munni said...

Completely agree with Lulu about Clichy/Traore, and that is the last thing I am saying about Arsenal on this blog, except to mutter a little about how much I miss Dennis Bergkamp. Sorry, all.

guitougoal said...

do they have an absinthye bar in Brussel? all red and white?

pipita said...

Munni

Don't worry about getting nostalgic here. I've already moaned about how much I miss Gallardo on this same thread. Same applies to Crespo, Francescoli, Sorin, Aimar, Saviola, Salas, Cambiasso, etc, etc, etc sniff, sniff

it is white and red gentlemen. Not red and white.
red cross on white background, only the flagpole may be with various color.
as it appears, in our records guitou is no belgian. His next door neighbor a very tall guy Orsay Lebel could be the source of confusion because we call him:
- Lebel giant.

I miss Brussels sprout.

Highly recommend you all check out Miro's anecdote on the GU Brian Clough thread. Priceless

offsideintahiti said...

Miro's intervention on yesterday's goalkeeping thread was very funny too. Our man in Belgrade is in fine form. I hope he hasn't peaked too early.

guitougoal said...

pipita which brian clough thread?

offsideintahiti said...

Guitou,

relax, the secret is out, there's no need to act Belgian.

guitougoal said...

yes you're right besides I am surprised Miro went on with personal stuff on the blog, also pipita is good at getting the bird to sing....like a belgian canari.

guitougoal said...

but it's a great story though,

pipita said...

Guitou, Offy

Glad you enjoyed that moment of Miro magic. Felt a bit like Andrewm for a bit, leading Miro on to entertain and finally succeeding. Where is the Scot by the way?? Where's Marcela?? Hummmmmm, feeling a bit lonely here......

guitougoal said...

Pipita,
the magic is also how you push the questioning to the limits with no verguenza...."c'mon man tell me now! I want to kow now!"...all the gu footy- pseudo intellectuals should be grateful, thanks to you they got the scoop of the day.

pipita said...

Exactly Guitou, but to be even more precise, I'm a "sin-vergüenza" no doubt when it comes to blogging:))) But it can go both ways...A couple of weeks ago Miro wasn't very impressed with my uncool approach...

guitougoal said...

understundably some people don't like to be pushed to disclosed personal thinhs about their life on the web.....

Anonymous said...

me recuerdo dos veces que el pepita estaba muy malo con las preguntas y que me necessito de responder con l'email.......

pipita said...

Hahahaha, quien será ese "Pepe el moco"???????? seguro que un franchute...Guitou, but in this instance it was clear Miro was desperate to divulge that personal experience of his...Thats why "pepita" came to his rescue

if i'm allowed to comment - just re-read the Hallows and think I understand a lot more now. Weep, and grieve. Hard to read. Much of the time. But hey ho, get on with life. Yeah?
Don't do GU anymore, but no doubt you all have fun there.

Anonymous said...

Why would you not be allowed to comment, Mimi?? You feature in the first sentence of the original post!

It was only the death of Hedwig that really got me....

GU cricket blogs are deadly dull and pompous these days, so it's a good thing the guys are still having fun on the footie ones.

Elvis was back in my building last night.4,5 earthquake. i was all shook up.

offsideintahiti said...

Guitou, this one's for you (silliest version I could find, by a long way)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtIuEI9f_Xo

Any cracks in the building?

pipita said...

Offy

Does Guitou ressemble this manualist chap by any chance?? BTW Ortega is back in training, seems almost certain he will be playing against Newels next sunday. Also, there are rumours that Gallardo was seen in Rosario(??????) and that apparently he is not at all happy in France

offsideintahiti said...

No, Guitou is a lot more handsome, but if he has a musical talent he's kept it well hidden.

Maybe Gallardo is tired of being used as an impact sub for the last 10 minutes of games by LeGuen? It was the trend last season, and it was the same on the first game of this season. Le Guen likes hard workers, players who run and run and run... Doesn't fit, does it?

offsideintahiti said...

I doubt this will make headline news throughout the world, but if you hear about the Air Moorea plane crash, just know that I wasn't on board.

Apparently the Twin Otter crashed immediately after taking off from Tahiti on its way over here. 13 dead. Fuck. (Sorry, that's not much of a eulogy, but Fuck.)

guitougoal said...

offside,
this is awful and not unspiring at all, it sounds or I would call it:"musical farts".
pipita thanks for the good news about l burrito, I keep my fingers crossed in a hopeful manner that he doesn't go for the botella again.
Gallardo, maaah.....Rosario can keep him.

pipita said...

Offy
How come?? "...taking off from Tahiti on its way over here" Where are you then...Oh dear, Know I see why "el muñeco" is not happy in Paris...

Guitou
Where you sleeping when the earth quaked in LA?? Why don't you like Gallardo?? Quite similar to burrito

offsideintahiti said...

Pipita,

I live on Moorea, just across the "channel" from Tahiti. I got it wrong the first time around, the plane was taking off from Moorea, and crashed into the ocean on its way to Tahiti. It's one of the shortest flights in the world, something like seven minutes to cross about a dozen miles between the two islands. We take it regularly.

guitougoal said...

Offside,
You must be all shook up too...taking it regularly does make it even harder to swallow.
Sorry friend, all the best a tous les trois....
pipita, minor earthquake but 4.5 wake you up yes.everything is shaking including your bed.Sorry about Gallardo to be honest, I don't know enough about him, I shouldn't even mention his name.

offsideintahiti said...

yeah, I know.

It's not like we take this flight everyday either, but we were on it when we got back from France only a couple of weeks ago. It's sometimes more convenient than the ferry and definitely quicker. Just not as safe, apparently. Fuck thrice.

guitougoal said...

for now just take the ferry if you have the choice

offsideintahiti said...

You bet.

I'd be inclined to think that lightning hardly ever strikes the same spot twice, but Mrs Offside begs to differ. She was already terrified of flying, so I don't think that's going to help.

The ferry is good. At least there's no chance of hitting an iceberg.

pipita said...

Yeah, take the ferry next time Offy. By the sound of it, it must be a pretty short trip also.

Guitou

I know the feeling...Around 77 in Buenos Aires we felt the resonance of a massive earthquake that occurred in the province of San Juan, near the andes. Remember that I was just waking up to go to school and all of a sudden the bed started to rock from one side to the other. My mother was screaming and we left the flat as fast as we could. Off course we made some very unwise desicions, such as taking the lift for example. Really hilarious when we got to the street seeing the whole neighberhood in nightgounds and pyjamas....Gallardo is cool, try and watch him play next time

guitougoal said...

yeah,i know the feeling for experiencing a couple of big ones myself after 20 years in california.
btw , no mention of air moorea's crash in the news yet.

guitougoal said...

TV5 just did.

Glad you weren't on that plane, Offside!

A friend of mine recently sent me a postcard from Provence, informing me that he was about to watch some "almost Tahitian ballet" in the town square.

What is "almost Tahitian ballet"?

Were you part of this spectacle?

If so, please send me some photos
- they will make an indispensable contribution to Ingrid's archeolinguistical research.

Yours in science,

Piaget

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children.

I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year
old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She
put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched
her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!
